A Scientific Breakthrough in Age Management

There are many symptoms of, aging that negatively affect our quality of life, such as increased body fat, loss of lean muscle tissue, lower energy levels, decreased sexual function, weakened immune function and decreased skin turgor/tightness. Secretagogue-Gold is formulated to alleviate these symptoms by addressing certain changes that occur during the physiological aging process.

With so many artificial and invasive age management options available, Dr. Giampapa takes a different approach with Secretagogue Gold. It is one of the most effective, natural ways to improve the aging process. It draws on advances in anti aging medicine and age management science, combined with new medical discoveries of the body's own pre programmed mechanisms to maintain itself in a young and healthy state.

Utilizing a scientific blend of safe, clinically, proven nutrients in perfect balance, Secretagogue-Gold  augments natural growth hormone release by supporting the body's natural physiological processes responsible for the production of HIGH. It uses an advanced systemic approach, focusing on these key biomarkers of aging stimulating the pituitary, inhibiting somatostatin, controlling blood sugar levels and improving liver functions. Dr. Giampapa's clinically researched systemic approach is now being made available to you, in Secretagogue Gold, so you can look better, feel better and achieve an improved quality of life.

Anti Aging Q&A with Dr. Giampapa

Q: What Is HIGH and What Does It Do?

DR. GIAMPAPA: Human growth hormone (HGH) is a complex polypeptide hormone consisting of
191 amino acids. It is made in the anterior pituitary gland (the master gland located in the center of the brain) and stimulates the release of another hormone called IGF- I (insulin like growth factor I) by the liver. HGH and IGF- I influence the metabolism of proteins, carbohydrates and lipids in the body; promote tissue growth and regeneration; regulate the secretion of other hormones and enhanceimmune functions. All of these physiological functions have an impact on the muscles, skin, kidneys, brain and other organs, and in turn, improve healing, physical and mental health, bone strength,, energy and metabolism.

Everyone naturally secretes HGH in their bodies from birth with levels reaching their peak in the body during adolescence, which then slowly decreases with age. As we get older, HGH continues to diminish to the point where the body makes a small fraction of what it did at the age of 20. This deprives the body of what it needs for tissue, bone and muscle regeneration. This depletion of HIGH is soon recognized by the familiar signs of aging, such as increased body fat, lack of vitality and energy, decreased muscle mass, wrinkling of the skin, poor immune health and poor general health.

Researchers have shown that stimulating the pituitary gland to produce youthful levels of HIGH can help rejuvenate the skin, increase lean body mass, promote energy production and build a strong immune system.

If you are between the ages of 35 and 70, your body is naturally producing only a tiny percentage of growth hormone than it was in your late teens. HGH secretion can decline up to 50% every 7 years after age 20. By the age of  60, HGH levels decrease by 80% from adolescent levels.

Q: How does Secretagogue Gold stimulate HGH production?

DR. GIAMPAPA: Human growth hormone (HGH) production is a very complex process and requires
other organs and hormones to work properly in order to carry out its anti aging abilities. Many organs such
as the hypothalamus, the pancreas, the, pituitary and the liver all play a vital role in the overall HGH process.
Secretagogue Gold TI focuses on this entire process, making it the first and only complete systemic approach
to maximizing HGH levels. F :
This systemic approach is broken down into three main categories:

I.  Pituitary/Hypothalamus stimulation to trigger the release of HGH
2. Pancreatic regulation to optimize blood sugar and insulin, to augment HGH and also
    cortisol levels
3. Hepatic (liver) nourishment and functioning for the conversion of HGH to IGF I

Q: How does Secretagogue-Gold stimulate the pituitary gland to produce HGH?

DR. GIAMPAPA: Certain glands use unique combinations of amino acids and nutrients to trigger desired responses and hormonal secretions. By combining specific amino acids in precise ratios with other synergistic nutrients at the right time, the pituitary gland can increase HGH secretions without prescriptions or injections.

Secretagogue-Gold utilizes a scientific blend of well researched and extremely safe nutrients in their perfect balance to stimulate HGH release and at the same time. suppress somatostatin, a secondary hormone which increases as we age and inhibits growth hormone release. By suppressing somatostatin, Secretagogue Gold will further increase HGH production at the pituitary hypothalmus axis.

Q: How do my blood sugar levels affect HGH production?

DR. GIAMPAPA: As we age, our body's ability to metabolize carbohydrates (sugars), also referred to as `glucose tolerance', is progressively reduced. Our bodies simply do not respond to the action of insulin, resulting in elevated levels of glucose in the bloodstream. This, is referred to as `glucose intolerance', and causes include being overweight, continual wear and tear on the pancreas from years of eating and a decrease in the overall amount of insulin production. Another cause is that our cell receptor sites are no longer able to absorb glucose like they did when we were younger.

Glucose intolerance renders glucose less available for use by muscle tissue, leading to high insulin levels and higher blood sugar levels. When blood sugar levels are elevated (such as after meals and snacks or due to your body's inability to metabolize sugars properly), the hypothalamus senses this condition and sends signals to the pituitary to inhibit HGH secretion. At the same time, the pancreas is stimulated to release insulin, crippling your body's ability to produce HGH. This elevation in blood sugar not only lowers HGH levels, but also contributes to obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

An important factor to remember is that as insulin increases, another hormone called cortisol concomitantly increases as well. Cortisol has been dubbed the age accelerating hormone. It exhibits a number of negative effects on the aging process in general. High cortisol levels are directly linked to I I major factors in aging.

I . Collagen and elastin protein breakdown in skin, joint, bone and muscle tissue occur.
2. Memory loss and nervous system damage occur.
3. Decreased immune function.
4. Increased pro inflammatory signaling factors called eicosanoids and interleukins.
5. Fat metabolism disorders are reflected in elevated triglycerides, total cholesterol and low good to bad cholesterol ratios.
6. Body fluid retention and high pressure occur.
7. Decreased hormonal signaling capacity, especially insulin receptors occur. This also affects key receptors for testosterone, glucagon and the estrogens.
8. Increased hypoglycemia and sugar cravings due to increased insulin levels.
9. Skin problems, which exhibit themselves as wrinkles, acne, psoriasis, seborrhea and alopecia (hair loss).
10.
Decreased cognitive function.
I I. Interrupted sleep patterns.

On the contrary, when blood sugar levels are low, the hypothalamus senses the condition and issues an order for the body to start using stored fat for energy. It does this by signaling to the pituitary gland. The pituitary gland executes the order by secreting HGH, which stimulates the process of fat burning. This usually happens at night when the stomach is empty or at any other time when the body is deprived of food, as in times of fasting.

Q: How do I keep my blood sugar levels stable?

DR. GIAMPAPA:
Since blood sugar levels play such an important role in your body's ability to augment
HGH, it is vital that you do everything you, can to help stabilize blood sugar levels. There are three extremely
important measures you can take to stabilize your blood sugar levels: „k

I. DIET: Always pay attention to the amount of food you consume, your ratio of macro nutrients and your food sources. Overeating is one of the main causes of accelerated aging. Eat controlled and sensible meals and don't follow any extreme diet that permits you to overeat any one type of food. Regarding ratios and sources of foods, my patients have been experiencing very positive results by following a balanced diet where 45% of their calories come from low glycemic, slow burning complex carbohydrates, 35% of their calories come from high quality protein sources (poultry, fish, legumes and lean cuts of beef) and 20% of their calories come from healthy fats rich in essential fatty acids. This ratio helps to balance blood sugar levels by keeping insulin, glucagon and cortisol ratios where they need to be. Please read on for  detailed diet information.

2. SUPPLEMENTATION: Take clinically proven vitamins, minerals and herbs that assist the body in maintaining normal blood sugar levels. Secretagogue-GoId contains a special blend (Glycation Regulation Complex) of carefully selected nutrients `that supports optimal blood sugar regulation and glucose tolerance. In doing so, Secretagogue-Gold also improves the balance of four very important hormones: insulin, glucagon, cortisol and growth hormone. Improving these key biomarkers of aging will optimize the aging process and improve the quality of your life and health span.

3. EXERCISE: Take part in a regular exercise program. During exercise, your body uses glucose (blood sugar) for fuel and improves your body's use of insulin, both of which help to lower blood sugar levels. Exercise also controls weight and reduces body fat, which in turn, improves your body's response to insulin. I usually recommend a moderate exercise program, but consult with your own physician before engaging in any exercise program. If you currently follow an exercise program, you are already on the right path. If you are not exercising or do not have enough time to get to the gym, I have outlined a very quick, simple and effective exercise program which you can follow at home.

Q: How is my liver involved in the production of HGH?

DR. GIAMPAPA: The liver is exposed to high levels of toxic compounds and undergoes an enormous amount of stress from the everyday rigors of life. The liver filters everything we put into our bodies food, smoke and environmental pollution, alcohol, medications they're all filtered by our liver. Over time, the liver becomes damaged from these various stresses and becomes less effective at its many jobs, including the very important conversion of HGH to another hormone called IGF I.

Once HGH is produced and released into the bloodstream, it only remains active for a short period of time, carrying out its multiple functions for approximately 30 minutes the amount of time it takes to reach the liver. After reaching the liver, HGH must be converted into IGF I and various metabolites to continue to promote growth and the nourishment and repair of cells, all of which are needed to rebuild tissues damaged by injury, illness or the effects of aging. IGF I works just like HGH, but it stays in the bloodstream for a longer period of time, carrying out the same health promoting benefits as HGH. For this reason, it is extremely important for your liver to be functioning optimally so that it may properly convert HGH into the longer lasting IGF-I hormone.

Q: How does Secretagogue Gold support a healthy functioning liver?

DR. GIAMPAPA: There has been a tremendous amount of promising research on certain vitamins and herbs to support proper liver functioning and health. Secretagogue Gold  contains a special blend of carefully selected nutrients to make up its Hepatic (Liver) Restoration Complex. This complex is specifically formulated to support optimal functioning of the liver, detoxification and regeneration of tissue. Key ingredients have been added to enhance the liver's ability to improve liver detoxification, which helps with the natural conversion of HGH to IGF I. This also improves the body's ability to remove key toxins and metabolic build up processes within the body that can impede optimal health and accelerate aging in general.

Q: What is so unique about Secretagogue Gold's Delivery System?

DR. GIAMPAPA: One of the most important things to understand is what occurs to the nutrients after you consume them. After all, it's not what you consume, but rather what you absorb that matters. Secretagogue-Gold contains amino acids in specific ratios that are very sensitive to the harsh acidic environment of the stomach. In most other formulas, the acidity of the stomach renders these amino acids useless. Secretagogue addresses this issue with a proprietary effervescent Polymer Transport Matrix delivery system that helps neutralize the PH of the gastric acids in the stomach so that these amino acids are carried into the bloodstream intact, where they carry out their mission to stimulate the release of HGH. Absorption becomes even more important with the onset of aging in general as the body loses the ability to absorb key nutrients including amino acids. This delivery system ensures proper absorption of the nutrients so they may perform their tasks.

Q: Does diet have any effects on HGH?

DR. GIAMPAPA:
Most people realize that their eating habits play a major role in the way they look, feel and age. Minor changes in the foods we eat can have a huge impact on our body's physiological processes. Macronutrients (carbohydrates, proteins and fats) control and regulate every hormone and function of the body. As mentioned earlier, I recommend eating your food in a balanced ratio of 45% carbohydrates, 35% proteins and 20% fats from select sources. I find that this ratio helps to stabilize blood sugar levels and keep insulin, glucagon and cortisol in proper balance. Balancing these key biomarkers can help to optimize the aging process and improve the quality of our life and health span.

This ratio emphasizes the optimal utilization of each macro nutrient for the purpose they are best suited for. Proper choices of carbohydrates will be used for energy and the regulation of blood sugar by balancing key hormones insulin and glucagon. Protein will be utilized to feed your muscles, connective tissue, organs and skin the amino acids they need to support muscle tissue regeneration and repair. Fats will be used as a secondary energy source and also for the production of hormones, reducing inflammation, supporting cardiovascular health, controlling hunger, slowing down digestion and helping to control insulin and glucagon. Excessive amounts or deficiencies in any of these macro nutrients will negatively impact their ability to perform their function and your ability to balance key anti aging biomarkers.

45% Carbohydrates

The most accurate way to classify carbohydrates is the Glycemic Index (GI), which was developed in 1981. The
Glycemic Index (GI) measures the power of the carbohydrate content in a specific food to raise blood glucose (sugar) levels after being eaten.

Low to moderate GI carbs such as oats and barley are digested more slowly and provide a gradual, steady supply of blood sugar that I often refer to as "Slow Carbs". This slower, steady supply of blood sugar is critical in
regulating key anti aging hormones. High GI carbs are digested and converted to glucose (sugar) very quickly, causing a spike in insulin as a response to try to stabilize blood sugar levels. These faster digested carbs not
only elevate insulin levels, but also cripple your body's HGH production, raise cortisol (the age accelerating hormone), while contributing to obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

Lower glycemic carbs, especially when consumed with protein and fat, balance key anti aging hormones, improving the quality of our life and health span.

35% Protein

Protein is essential for the growth and repair of the body. It plays a crucial role in virtually all biological processes in the body. All enzymes are proteins and are vital for the body's metabolism. Muscle contraction, immune protection, connective tissue, blood cells and the transmission of nerve impulses are all dependent on proteins. Proteins in skin and bone provide structural support and many hormones, such as HGH, are proteins.

When protein requirements are not met, your body uses muscle tissue to acquire the amino acids necessary to maintain these vital bodily functions. This condition is called muscle catabolism and has a catastrophic impact on the aging process. These catabolic conditions result in a number of negative effects, including impaired manufacturing of hormones, compromised immune functions and loss of muscle tissue, which therefore accelerate
the aging process.

While it is important to consume adequate amounts of protein for the above mentioned reasons, you should choose lean protein sources that are lower in saturated fat. It is also of great importance to choose a variety of high quality protein sources in order to provide dour body with a full spectrum of amino acids. Below is a list of high quality protein sources to incorporate into your daily diet.

Chicken,Turkey, Beef, Tuna, Salmon, Whitefish, Whey, Soy,
Casein,
Tofu, Cottage Cheese, Skim MiIk, Yogurt and Eggs.

20% Fat

Essential fatty acids (EFA's) perform key functions in our cells and tissues that the body cannot live without, especially a type of EFA's called "the Omega 3's". (We sell Neuro-DHA which is the most active ingredient in fish oil and is mandated by the FDA to be supplemented in all Baby Formulas)

The Omega-3 family of essential fatty acids is involved with insulin secretion and insulin sensitivity. They will also improve amino acid transport to muscle tissue, metabolic rate, cholesterol levels and energy. Omega-3 fatty acids also play a role in alleviating joint pain and inflammation. As you may have found, joint pain and inflammation can sideline your ability to feel and perform your best. Specifically, Omega 3 fatty acids have been shown to decrease COX-2 (cyclooxygenase), the enzyme associated with joint degradation and decrease the cytokines (messenger chemicals) associated with inflammation. Simply incorporating high Omega-3 sources into your Macrobolic diet or supplementing with Omega-3's (especially from fish sources) may be very beneficial in alleviating your joint pain and helping your overall health.

High Quality Omega-3 Sources

Dr. Giampapa's Age Management Workout

I've developed a short exercise program to be performed before bedtime (and taken with Secretogogue GoId to stimulate an even greater release of HGH into the bloodstream while you sleep. This series of exercises is designed to use major muscle groups and, at the same time, cover major muscle activity from head to toe. Not only will this simple, quick program aid in natural hormone release, it will improve your body composition (increase lean body mass, decrease body fat), a critical biomarker for optimal health and longevity as we age.

All exercises may be performed with or without dumbbells. If you find that any particular exercise becomes too easy without dumbbells, you may want to use 5 - 15 lb. weights to create more resistance, which will give you a more challenging workout.

Movement I : Push Up

Lie chest down with your hands at shoulder level, palms flat on the floor (or holding dumbbells) and slightly more than shoulder width apart. Position your feet together and parallel to each other. Look forward rather than down at the floor. Keep your legs straight and your toes tucked under your feet.

Straighten your arms as you push your body up off the floor. Keep your palms fixed at the same position and
keep your body straight. Try not to bend or arch your upper or lower back as you push up. Exhale as your arms straighten out. Pause for a moment. Slowly lower your body toward the floor. Bend your arms and keep your palms in fixed position. Keep your body straight and feet together. Lower your body until your chest touches the floor. Try not to bend your back. Keep your knees off of the floor and inhale as you bend your arms. Pause for a moment. Begin straightening your arms for a second push up. Exhale as you raise your body.

Movement 2: Bent Over Row/Deadlift

Utilizing dumbbells held in each hand, the exercise begins by bending at the waist and raising dumbbells to complete a rowing motion. Upon completion of the rowing motion and while maintaining a bending position at the waist, the dumbbells are returned to the top of the toes. Here, a complete straightening of the back occurs, completing the dead lift movement of this phase of the exercise. Completion of phase I allows for strengthening and tension on the hamstrings of the rear lower legs, as well as the lower back. These are two key muscle groups that are necessary as we age to maintain an erect spine position and to help stretch the hamstrings that tighten as we age.

Movement 3: Standing Bicep Curl

This action is done slowly and deliberately. Curl the weights up toward your chest until your biceps are fully contracted and return to the start position controlling the weights through out each movement. The curl contraction should be measured with a 2 count while the release retraction should be measured with a 4 count.  Exhale when you exert energy and inhale when you are relaxed.

Movement 4: Squat

Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart and the dumbbells raised to just above your shoulders. Slowly bend at the knees while keeping your back straight and perpendicular to the floor until your elbows reach your knees. Pause for a moment, then slowly rise to the standing position while keeping the dumbbells in the same position. This strengthens the quadriceps at the front of the thighs and maintains tension on the biceps through the upper portion of the exercise. The deep knee bends also improve ligament strength in the anteromedial cruciate areas as well. This is essential in the baby boom population to maintain full range of motion and improve functionally.

Movement 5: Standing Overhead Press

A full bilateral dumbbell shoulder press is accomplished utilizing a slow, continuous motion. At the peak of the shoulder press, the dumbbells are held for a count of 5 and then lowered slowly over another count of 5. This slow, deliberate action of holding the position forces further strength of the deltoid and triceps.

Movement 6: Shrug

With the hands completely holding the dumbbells at the sides, a slow shrugging motion of the shoulders is
accomplished. This strengthens the trapezius muscles and upper back areas. This is accomplished with the neck in a fully extended position extended position and the chin in a perfectly horizontal plane, further strengthening and improving the muscles around the cervical vertebrae.

Movement 7: Toe Raise

Upon completion of the shoulder shrugs and with the hands completely holding the dumbbells at the sides, rise up on the balls of your feet and hold for a minimum count of 5.  This exercise strengthens the lower calf muscles and the ball and arch of the foot (the small muscles of the foot).  Maintaining this exercise to a minimum count of 5 helps with overall balance and stability in general. Both loss of balance and foot stability is one of the major causes of injuries to the older population. A return to the flat footed position completes this one full cycle and one full rep.

With the completion of this one set, every major muscle group of the body has been exercised utilizing major muscle groups with a continuous flow of motion, allowing for muscle growth and flexibility as described in this exercise pattern.

The continuous motion of 10 complete reps of this exercise will require no more than approximately 8 - 10 minutes, but will be a challenging exercise  even with light dumbbells and light weights. The forearm and hand muscles must maintain a firm grip on the dumbbells, thereby strengthening the hands, wrists and lower arms. Throughout the exercise phases, continuous cardiovascular activity is utilized as the upper half of reps 5 through 10 are completed.

This overall muscle stimulation, in a continuous fashion, will help stimulate the natural release of growth hormone. In conjunction with Secretagogue-Gold which further focuses on the key hormonal components that trigger growth hormone release, this overall exercise will be an easy addition to any fitness and age management program.

It is recommended that this initial exercise be completed with light weights so that it is relatively easy to accomplish the full 10 reps. As this becomes easier and the muscle groups become more efficient in performing these motions, it is recommended that the weights be increased until the effort required to complete the 10 reps is in the moderate exertion category.

I believe that the combination of Secretagogue-Gold's ingredients and this, natural, growth hormone releasing exercise program will be one of your most effective ways of maintaining an optimal body composition and an optimal growth hormone level without the use of actual growth hormone replacement.

Dr. Giampapa's Prescription For Longevity:
An Overview

Step I

Take Secretagogue-Gold before sleep, approximately 2-3 hours after your evening meal. The precise blend of ingredients in Secretagogue-Gold (naturally occurring amino acids and glandular extracts) aid in natural growth hormone release, while leaving the body's normal GH release mechanisms intact. The additional new compounds in Secretagogue GoId (which enhance liver function and blood sugar stabilization) have been added to help with the conversion of HGH into I-GF1,  as well as balance insulin, glucagon and cortisol ratios, all of which contribute to the positive effects of elevated growth hormone levels.

Step 2

Try to eat in the 45/35/20 balanced ratio of food as much as possible with those food sources coming from low glycemic carbohydrates, high quality proteins and essential fatty acids. Avoid overeating and eat smaller meals more frequently throughout the day. This will improve energy levels, boost your metabolism and stabilize blood sugar. Your evening meal should be high in protein content and low in carbohydrates. Eating in this manner will keep insulin levels low. Elevated insulin levels can block the natural release of growth hormone and the positive stimulatory effects of the components found in Secretagogue-Gold.

Step 3

Perform Dr. Giampapa's 10 minute workout before going sleep to increase your natural HGH release, as well as to decrease your growth hormone levels before falling asleep. The combination of the 3 steps involved will help to utilize your body's own natural mechanisms for growth hormone release resulting in the most effective program to augment the body's anti aging sense mechanisms.

* As an added benefit, do 20 25 minutes of aerobic exercise 3 5 times weekly in the form of interval training, which further helps decrease body fat levels, improving body composition as well as decreasing insulin levels throughout the day. This helps with limiting body fat deposition on a long term basis.

Landmark Studies in HGH Therapy:
The Rudman Study

THE STUDY THAT BROUGHT HGH TO THE
FOREFRONT OF ANTI AGING THERAPY

In 1985, endocrinologist Dr. Daniel Rudman from Madison, Wisconsin, published in the journal of American Geriatrics Society a brand new theory about aging based on his many years of extensive clinical experiments and research. He clearly indicated in the article that human aging is a result of HGH deficiency, and is not the commonly accepted view of "inevitable natural phenomenon." He further concluded that by stimulating the pituitary gland with HGH, the gland could be made to recover its function to secrete HGH again. This discovery not only stops the aging process, but also turns back the biological clock to its adolescent stage. He tested his theory with 26 men between the ages of 61 and 80. He gave half of the men injections of HGH (Human Growth Hormone) three times a week for six months. At the end of the study, the differences between the two groups was startling.

Those on the HGH gained an average of 8.8% lean body mass and lost 14% body fat without dieting or exercise. Their skin was thicker and firmer, their bones had increased in density, they had higher energy levels, enhanced sexual performance, regrowth of heart, liver, spleen, kidneys and other organ tissues that shrink with age, greater cardiac output, superior immune function, lower blood pressure, improved cholesterol profiles, faster wound healing, mood elevation, improved sleep and increased memory retention. The conclusion by Rudman and his colleagues was that the changes in their body compositions were "equivalent in magnitude to the changes incurred during 10 to 20 years of aging." His experiment was immediately hailed as the breakthrough it was.

Encouraged by Dr. Rudman's HGH theory, the National Institute on Aging began to carry out nine clinical experiments in 1992. They took five years to complete and the results, unprecedented and far reaching in influence, proved once again that Dr. Rudman's theory was correct.
